Definitions & Message Explanations

Holdings & Recent Receipts

Anytime there is more than one copy or volume of an item in a location, the Full Record display will include a "Holdings" statement listing all of the individual pieces held by the Libraries. This, of course, means that journals and other serials, which have many volumes and/or issues, almost always will have holdings statements.

In addition, for currently-received journals and other serials, there may be a separate "Recent Receipts" section. This section lists those issues that have been received by the library, but not yet included with the regular holdings. Often unbound issues are listed under "Recent Receipts" and bound volumes under "Holdings." Please note than when both messages are present, the Holdings and Recent Receipts may be at different locations.
